Hi, This is Dr. Egan, and today I want to talk to you about how and why I entered the field of audiology. A lot of patients have been asking me this recently and that’s why I thought it would be a good thing to share with all of you guys. It all started back in college. I was doing art therapy with people who have dementia, and the thing that was most shocking to me in some of those retirement communities that I went to was that someone could be sitting in a corner completely disengaged, and you really couldn’t tell if they had dementia, or if they had hearing loss. I saw a couple of times when aids would come out, they put the hearing aids in and it was a completely different person. They were engaged and socializing and their face would light up. It was really shocking to me to see how much of a difference hearing aids could make in someone’s quality of life, and that’s really what lead me into working with people with hearing loss.
