• Hearing aid manufacturers have phone applications (or “apps”) available for smartphones that provide the hearing aid user with manual control of volume, sound balance, noise reduction and speech focus. These apps also allow the user to see the battery status of the hearing aids, as well as reach out for remote services. Remote services provide the patient with the ability to have adjustments made to the hearing aid programming (such as increasing the volume or improving the clarity) without having to come into the office.   • Healthable Technology features include body tracking, brain tracking, and fall alert notifications. The hearing aids have “3D motion sensors, which can track your activity, steps, and overall movement.” If you or a loved one who wears hearing aids falls, the aids will send an alert to a previously designated cell phone to alert family members that their loved one has fallen. 
  • Intelligent Assistant technology features include using voice commands to get answers to questions found anywhere on the internet, set reminders, and provide notifications for tasks like taking medications and translation capability for over twenty languages.

Accessories can include devices that connect to your television and stream the television directly into your hearing aids – providing more clarity, remote controls for manual control, and devices that allows the hearing aid user to hear speech more clearly from one or several talkers.

Custom hearing aids come in a variety of styles from an In-The-Ear style to a Completely-in-the-Canal style.

There are two styles of Behind the Ear hearing aids: Receiver in the Canal (RIC) or Receiver in the Aid (RITA). Both of these hearing aids have the body of the device (the part that contains the electronics) behind the ear, and while the receiver in the aid style will have a tube and an earpiece that goes down into the ear canal and may be more appropriate for more severe hearing losses, while the receiver in the canal has a thin wire that goes into the ear and provides a flexible range for adjustments, should your hearing change over time.
