We are excited to offer Bone Anchored Hearing Aid (BAHA) services to our patients. If you’ve been struggling with hearing loss and traditional hearing aids are not the right fit for you, this fascinating device could be a great solution. Here’s everything you need to know about BAHA, how it works, and how we can help you with this life-changing technology.
What is a Bone-Anchored Hearing Aid (BAHA)?

The BAHA system uses a small sound processor that attaches to the titanium implant. The sound processor picks up sounds from your environment and sends vibrations through the implant directly to the bone of your skull. These vibrations travel to the inner ear, allowing you to hear sounds clearly and without interference from the middle ear.
Since the sound bypasses the middle ear, it’s particularly beneficial for people with outer or middle ear issues that prevent sound from being transmitted effectively. It’s also a great option for individuals who are not candidates for traditional hearing aids.

BAHA may be a good option if you:
- Have conductive or mixed hearing loss
- Have single-sided deafness (SSD)
- Have a medical condition that makes traditional hearing aids uncomfortable or ineffective
- Have tried and struggled with hearing aids in the past
- Are in good general health and able to undergo surgery
If you’re unsure whether a BAHA is right for you, don’t worry! We offer comprehensive evaluations to determine if this is the best hearing solution for your needs.
If you’re unsure whether a BAHA is right for you, don’t worry! We offer comprehensive evaluations to determine if this is the best hearing solution for your needs.
Receiving a BAHA involves a surgical procedure to place the titanium implant into the bone behind your ear. This implant serves as the foundation for the sound processor.
Here’s a quick overview of the process:
- Evaluation & Assessment: First, we’ll conduct a thorough evaluation to assess your hearing loss and determine whether a BAHA is right for you.
- Surgery Referral: If you’re a candidate, we’ll refer you to an experienced surgeon who will perform the implant surgery. This is typically done under local anesthesia, and the procedure takes about an hour or less.
- Healing Period: After the surgery, there is a healing period, typically around 6 to 8 weeks, to allow the titanium implant to fuse with the bone. During this time, you will not wear the sound processor.
- Programming and Activation: Once the implant has fully integrated with the bone, our audiologist will activate your device and program it for your specific hearing needs. We’ll work with you to fine-tune the settings, so you experience the best sound quality possible.
We’re thrilled to offer BAHA services at Now Hear This®! We understand how important it is to hear clearly, and we’re here to guide you through the entire process—from your initial consultation to surgery and the activation and programming of your BAHA device.
