Styles of Hearing Aids Explained With Dr. Egan

Hi, I’m Dr. Egan at Now Hear This®, and today I’d like to talk to you about the different kinds of hearing aids and why people end up with different hearing aid styles.
The styles of hearing aids come in many different options. There are ones that go behind the ear like this, ones that go in the ear in different sizes and colors, and really big ones that go behind the ear.
The two main factors that determine which style you end up with are the degree and configuration of your hearing loss—how much hearing loss you have and in what pitches—and your lifestyle needs.
Hearing Loss, Medications and Ototoxic Monitoring

Hi, I’m Dr. Egan from Now Hear This, and today I’d like to talk to you about something called ototoxic monitoring.
Now, the first thing you might be wondering is, what is ototoxic? I don’t even know the first word before the monitoring. Well, ototoxicity is when something, a medication, can cause damage to our inner ear hearing organ, the cochlea. There are many types of ototoxic drugs. Some of the most common include aspirin, when taken in large quantities. There are all sorts of NSAIDs, like ibuprofen and Naproxen.
